Brick by Brick: Restoration of the Great Wall

I have been fortunate to have been to several sections of the Great Wall and enjoy visiting each time. The picture on The Riverlands blog was taken at SiMaTai around 1999. At that time SiMaTai was not a popular tourist destination and it was quite the journey just to get there. The views were amazing though and this section of the wall had a shear drop off of several hundred feet. I returned in 2008 and found you could no longer go to this section because of the danger. 
Recently I found an interesting article on the restoration of the Great Wall which is good reading along with interesting pictures. Enjoy!

East Earth Travelogue: Naxi Dancers, Lijiang, China

While visiting Lijiang we had the opportunity to watch Naxi dancers in the old town square. The women and men here are pictured with their traditional dress. The the Naxi ethnic minority mostly live in Lijiang, Yunnan Province, while the rest live in Sichuan and Tibet.

China's Taoism Revival

Yin Xinhui reached the peak of Mount Yi and surveyed the chaos. The 47-year-old Taoist abbess was on a sacred mission: to consecrate a newly rebuilt temple to one of her religion’s most important deities, the Jade Emperor. But there were as yet no stairs, just a muddy path up to the pavilion, which sat on a rock outcropping 3,400 feet above a valley. Tea Production in China affected by Drought

Tea production in southeast China has suffered due to one of the longest droughts on record. Production and quality is lower and prices are higher because of the drought.
