I have been fortunate to have been to several sections of the Great Wall and enjoy visiting each time. The picture on The Riverlands blog was taken at SiMaTai around 1999. At that time SiMaTai was not a popular tourist destination and it was quite the journey just to get there. The views were amazing though and this section of the wall had a shear drop off of several hundred feet. I returned in 2008 and found you could no longer go to this section because of the danger.
Recently I found an interesting article on the restoration of the Great Wall which is good reading along with interesting pictures. Enjoy!
